Did you raise you legs today? Most of us are busy everyday. Standing and sitting for long period of time affects our circulation. Minor swelling of the legs and feet can happen accompanied by soreness and occasional camps.
Leg raises can help bringing blood from our lower body back to the heart. Here's how to do leg raises in the most effective way:
1. Lie down. Raise legs 60-90 degrees above the surface where you lay down. You may lean your legs against the wall
2. Keep the position for 20 minutes if possible.
3. Add in minor exercises such as pointing your toes away from the body, open and close your legs.
During the day, spend 2-3 minutes repeat standing on your toes and back to your feet and avoid crossing your legs.
Foot or leg bath is a perfect way to reduce swelling and stress at the end of the day. Here are some suggestions:
Temperature: ~40 degrees C
Water amount: enough to cover the feet or just below the knee for legs bath.
Duration: 15-20 minutes
For older adults, sit for 5-10 minutes after the bath to reduce incidents of dizziness.
If you have open wounds or cuts, wait till the wounds are closed and healed.
